Led by former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, the 9-member group comprises of senior Congress leaders Dr Karan Singh, former Home Minister P Chidambaram, Leader of Opposition, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ambika Soni, PCC president G A Mir, Nawang Rigzin Jora and Tariq Hameed Karra and Sham Lal Sharma.

The group will meet at least 30 delegations of political parties, civil society groups, youth leaders, traders, hoteliers, businessmen, local Kashmiri pandits, minority groups, saffron and fruit growers and students.

Among the political parties meeting the group are National Conference, CPI (M), PDF and others.

PCC chief Mir told KNS that on September 16 the group will hold an executive committee meeting of Congress part and then 16 delegations will meet them.

On the next day, 14 delegations are scheduled to meet the group in Srinagar, he said.

The group will hold Congress legislative party meet on September 17 morning before meeting the delegations.

“However, the invitation is open and anybody can meet them,” he said.

Formed in May, the group visited Jammu last week and held closed-door discussions with the leaders of the Congress and other opposition parties.

Nearly 20 delegations representing cross-section of the society also met with the group.

The group, formed following the continuation of fragile political and security situation in the Valley, aims to hold dialogue with all stakeholders and help for peace building in the state.

The group, according to the sources, was constituted after the senior leader Tariq Hameed Karra urged the party high command to take concrete steps regarding the resolution of Kashmir issue.
